Iceland is drumming up support for the England team by bringing back an iconic song in a unique way to get behind Southgate’s boys.
According to Iceland’s research, half of the nation (52%) think ‘Vindaloo’ is one of the most iconic England songs of all time and so the supermarket is unveiling limited-edition Vindaloo frozen ready meals, just in time for the knockouts.
The hilarious new packaging features ‘Vindaloo’ 10 times, just like the lyrics from the classic song.
Now, Iceland is launching the limited-edition ready meals in selected, surprise stores and asking radio stations across the country to get behind the boys and play England’s favourite football song, Vindaloo.
Andrew Staniland, Group Buying Director at Iceland Foods and The Food Warehouse, said: “England has officially advanced to the knockout stage, and now is the time for us to rally behind the team.
“Vindaloo’ is a timeless anthem, and to boost support among our customers, we’re celebrating by introducing special edition packaging for a limited run of our delicious Vindaloo ready meals.”
That’s not all, in anticipation of the first knock-out game, Iceland is hiding £20 vouchers inside product packaging sleeves of the cheeky limited-edition Vindaloo curries in selected, surprise Iceland stores across England from Friday 28 June* – meaning lucky supporters can cash in on match-day treats.
Echoing Andrew’s comments, further research from Iceland revealed 46% think that the song should have made it to number one in 1998 when it was first released.
A combined 85% of those surveyed also agree that watching England take penalties makes them more nervous and sweatier than eating a Vindaloo. So, England fans across the nation will be hoping that the squad aren’t subjected to any penalty heartbreak this tournament.
