As a part of their well known Explorer Series, Mr Fogg’s in Mayfair will be joined by eminent war correspondent Kate Adie OBE. Mr Fogg’s Residence is a recreation of the famous adventurer Phileas Fogg’s Victorian home. The character, created by Jules Verne, was the inspiration for the bar in the same Mayfair location he was supposed to have lived in between going on his adventures. The Explorer Series first began in 2014 and consists of a collection of intimate talks and a collection of epic travellers’ tales told by some of the greatest travellers from around the world.
Kate Adie OBE will be visiting Mr Fogg’s Residence on Monday the 24th July for an evening that will be filled with tales of her outstanding career and numerous achievements alongside cocktails made with Appleton Estate 12 Year Old Rum. During her time at the bar, Kate will be reflecting on her experiences of working on the frontline of a number of the most dangerous and conflict-ridden areas of the world. Her experiences, often life-threatening, include The Gulf War, and the war that took place in Sierra Leone in 2000. These experiences were mostly during her 14-year period as Chief News Correspondent for the BBC.
Throughout her career, Kate has shown eagerness towards exploring parts of the world usually avoided by others. Covering the 1986 American bombing of Tripoli, 1988 Lockerbie Bombing and the Rwandan Genocide of 1994. Reluctantly, Kate left this font line position after being shot. Since then she has put her experiences in toa series of bestselling novels including The Kindness of Strangers.
Guests for the event are invited to enjoy the Appleton Estate Signature Blend and Rare Blend Rums in cocktails while listening to Kate tell her experiences of being in some of the most dangerous parts of the world.
