Spring is the perfect time to pull up a projector and have a binge-watch session with your friends. The cool rain and the cloudy weather make it a perfect indoor activity for days that are not sunny. Netflix has just released a series of shows you can binge on through the weekend and we are all for it! Read on to see our list of the perfect binge-worthy dramas this season.
Russian Doll
One of the crazier shows on Netflix, Russian doll is an experience from the start to the end. The show is a two-part series- with each season being completely different but also very similar. What follows is a binge-worthy show that you will not be able to stop watching. The show follows the story of Nadia, a girl who dies on her 36th birthday, only to come back, and die again. and again. and again. Stuck in a loop, Nadia needs to find a way to escape it and well, not die anymore. The show has a lot of easter eggs throughout the episodes and the complex loop is very easy to understand, especially because of the way the episodes are shaped. The second season continues where the first season left off but becomes increasingly more twisted. This time, Nadia can travel back in time and take over his mother’s body- think that’s weird? Just watch the rest of the show!
Bridgerton season 2
With the first season being a tremendous success, it is no wonder the Netflix show has returned for a second season. Bridgerton is based on a series of books by the same name written by Julia Quinn, with the first season following the first book- the duke and I. The second season follows Daphne’s broker, the viscount, Anthony. We all saw in the last season that Anthony had decided to marry for the family instead of for love (hence ending his love affair with his mistress). The second season of Bridgerton will follow his story. Based on the second book of the series- The Viscount Who Loved Me- the show follows Anthony, who wants to court this season’s diamond- Edwina. However, things take a turn when he starts falling for her elder sister- Kate. The low-burn romance is all you can ask for and the chemistry between the characters, along with the charm of the Bridgerton universe makes it a must-watch this season. However, if you have read the books, you will find the show is different in many ways- especially considering that the show tries to employ more people of colour and show different cultures rather than having all-white characters like in the book.
Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Con Man
True crime has become increasingly famous over the years, especially now- with Netflix producing true crime documentaries and making them accessible in an increasingly interesting way. And what is more interesting than a con artist that is still out? The show is a documentary on Robert Hendy Freegard- a con artist who has, to date, conned people out of thousands and thousands of pounds. One of the most striking cases in British history- the Netflix show opens with the victims of Robert or ‘Rob’ describing how their lives changed after meeting the criminal. She talks about how Rob approached her and her two friends and told them he was an M15 agent. Taking advantage of the IRA terror that had been in the news, he told the agricultural school students that they were in ‘danger’ and that his agency would take them in for ‘witness protection.’ He also mentioned how expensive this program was, and for the following decade, continued to rob them of their money, made them isolate themselves from their friends and family and continued making them live in poor conditions while moving from one location to another. He called these locations ‘safe houses. What makes the true-crime documentary scarier is the fact that he was let off in 2009 and continues to be free to this date.
American Murder: The Family Next Door
The gripping new documentary is equal parts interesting as it is scary. And scary it is, but for all the right reasons. The documentary covers the murders of the suburban housewife, Shannan Watts, who was pregnant with her son Nico and her two daughters- Bella and Celeste. The shocking thing about this series is the fact that there is no mystery about who murdered the family, why they did it or how they did it- which makes it terrifying. The case was solved in just a few days. And it’s obvious who the murderer was- Shannan’s husband, Chris Watts. What makes this Netflix show terrifying is the fact that Shannan believed, till the end, that they were a loving family- as seen from her multiple social media posts. Called one of the most ‘disturbing and chilling murders out of the thousands’ by the judge who took the case, American murder creeps you out in the fact that it was, in the eyes of everyone (including the victims), a normal, loving family. Till it was not. Watch this documentary for free on your TV aerial. To get one installed by professionals, click here.
