Even if you have been to Italy once or twice – there is plenty more to go and see! Italy is a country that has such a wide variety of food, culture, views, and architecture that visit counts in the single digits aren’t going to be enough.
The more comfortable you get with Italy, the more likely it is you will start coming away from the big cities and heading to the smaller villages and towns.
So what should you do when you’re in Italy?
Lakes
The absolute peace and breathtaking views of the lakes in Italy are beyond measure. You’ll be hard-pressed to compare them with lakes elsewhere. Two of the most beautiful lakes in Italy and the ones that are more highly recommended are Lake Como and Lake Garda.
But there are a couple of lakes that are worth a little jaunt to get to. Lake Scanno is said to have a strong spiritual feel and some magical feelings.
For those who want to take a deep dip, then the 26-foot-deep Lake Capo D’Acqua is the place to be. You’ll swim through a mediaeval village – some people call it the Atlantis of Gran Sasso National Park.
‘O Parrucchiano
While there might be plenty of tourists here, it doesn’t detract one iota from the atmosphere. You and your travel companions will feel like you have found a piece of paradise. This restaurant has a canopy of lemon trees and will give you those Italian holiday vibes that you want.
The food isn’t the best in Italy, but eating pasta under a lemon tree with the evening sun settling is something that will take your breath away.
‘O Parrucchiano is in Sorrento, and luckily there are plenty of other things to do here, like the Old Town, Limonoro (delicious lemon liquor seller), and the Basilica of Sant’Antonino. To maximise your time, look for houses to rent in Sorrento coast in Italy, so you can fit in as much as you can in a few days.
Villa Romana Del Casale
Head to Sicily to check out this palace from Ancient Rome. Unfortunately, the villa was damaged between 469 and 468 by the Vandals and then, after a landslide, was abandoned. It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has over 40 rooms.
What makes this place unique is that researchers found some of the oldest mosaics that date back to the 4th century A.D. Even if you don’t find mosaics beautiful, this place is a must-visit.
For those who prefer stone carvings to mosaics, then the stone carvings of Val Camonica, some of the earliest carvings, date back to the 8th millennium B.C.! This place is particularly cool because it was the first site in Italy that was recognized as UNESCO World Heritage.
And let’s not forget the food, you could say pizza, focaccia, or even tortellini – but if you have the opportunity to enjoy white truffles, take it! The best places to head to are Marche, Umbria, Emilia, Romania, Tuscany, or Piedmont.
