A parent visa may be available if you have a UK-based kid under 18. Child visas may be available if you have additional children under 18 who require visas and a parent visa. You may:
- simultaneous parent-child visa application
- apply for child visas with a parent visa
Parent and child visas are family visas. Family visas cost over £1,500 per person.
If your partner is the child’s other parent

Your parent visa lasts 2 years and 6 months or 2 years and 9 months if you apply outside the UK. Child visas stay until the parent visa expires, even if they start later. Applications are normally accepted:
- to extend both visas before expiring
- seek for permanent residency for you and your children after 5 years with a parent visa.

- ensure your home is safe and fit

Parents may receive parent visas if their children live in the UK and have one of the following:
- British citizenship
- Irish citizenship
- unlimited leave or residence
- EU Settlement Scheme settled status
Getting a parent visa for a pre-settled kid requires:
- by 31 December 2020, your kid entered the UK
- applying from outside the UK
You may apply for a parent visa in the UK if your kid has lived there for 7 years and it would be fair for them to depart to live with you. If your child’s health is in the stake, they shouldn’t leave.
Check whether you can get a parent visa
Parent visas are only available if one of the following applies:
- solely responsible for your kid
- Your kid usually lives with you
- the right to see your kid
If you raise your kid alone, you have sole duty. This typically suggests your child’s other parent isn’t involved.
You have access rights if you can see your kid. You may have agreed with the other parent or received a family court decree. You must demonstrate your access rights in the UK, such as seeing your kid often.

Your other children may require visas
You may apply for child visas for your other children under 18 when you apply for a parent visa.
If you have a parent visa, you may apply for child visas for your kids.
Children with British citizenship or indefinite leave don’t need to apply.
Child visas may only be obtained if:
- They are your exclusive responsibility.
- The kid may need to reside in the UK if no one else can effectively care for them.
If you raise and care for your kid alone, you have sole duty. This typically suggests your child’s other parent isn’t involved.
Independent children cannot be adopted if:
- live together with their partner
- leave home—unless they went to study.
Check the rules about how much you can earn and save
You must demonstrate adequate money to support oneself without public assistance. This is the ‘adequate maintenance’ test.
Work out how much money the government claims you need each week to pass the appropriate upkeep test. Check whether you have adequate revenue.
If your overall income is low
You may be eligible to include your partner’s Universal Credit benefits in your total income. Depends on your situation. Ask an advisor if you need assistance passing the proper maintenance exam.
