Steph Sinn, a 31-year-old content creator and nude yoga instructor, passionately advocates for the benefits of living a clothes-free life. With over 250,000 followers on her social media (@stephinspace), Steph openly shares her experiences and encourages others to embrace nudity.
Steph, originally from Arizona and now living in Los Angeles, believes that if it weren’t for the weather, she’d spend every day in the buff. Her lifestyle choices, including refusing to wear bras, enjoying hikes wearing nothing but her boots, and frequently visiting clothing-optional beaches and hot springs, have surprised her family and caused her to lose friends. However, she finds these challenges worth the empowerment and freedom that come with being naked.
“We were born into this world naked and then conditioned to believe that our nude bodies are purely for sex,” Steph explains. “If being naked was socially acceptable, I would be naked all the time, depending on the weather.”
Steph’s comfort with nudity stems from her upbringing in an open household. She recalls fond memories of playing naked on the lawn with a hose and slip ‘n’ slide. As she hit puberty, her open nudity around family naturally dwindled, but her competitive swimming background meant she was often around minimally-clothed people. This, she believes, had an unconscious impact on her.
Although her parents had reservations about her becoming a nude model and yoga instructor, they were mainly concerned for her safety and future career prospects. Fortunately, they now support her and understand how empowering she finds her lifestyle. Despite losing a few friends due to disagreements over her nudity, Steph remains confident that those truly meant to be in her life will stick around.
“I am just a gal who enjoys being free in my body, and often that means not having any clothes on,” she says.
Steph believes that being naked is a “radically brave” way to express self-love, which is why she enjoys her job filming instructional yoga videos in the nude for True Naked Yoga, a streaming platform launched in 2018. She discovered nude yoga through a friend and found it the perfect match for helping others while doing something she loves.
“In my humble opinion, the number one benefit of being naked is the deepened connection with your body,” Steph states. “Bodily awareness during any form of exercise is paramount if you don’t want to injure yourself, and being naked can actually help you with technique and form. It also allows you to feel sensations that you wouldn’t be able to feel otherwise if you were covered in bulky, tight, or baggy clothing.”
Steph also enjoys nature hikes without clothes, skinny-dipping in the ocean or wild lakes, and meeting like-minded people at clothing-optional beaches and hot springs. She wants others to realize the benefits of regular nudity, especially for improving body image issues.
“In a world where we are taught to compare ourselves to others and bombarded with messages to alter our bodies to fit specific trends, being naked is a radically brave act,” Steph says. “It says that you love yourself, inside and out. Or at least that’s what it does for me.”
Steph hopes to inspire others to take care of their bodies and prioritize health and wellness. She finds it beautiful to connect with her surroundings and other humans in this natural and freeing way.
