Food glorious food! Where would any of us be without food? Dead, of course, so let’s say this; where would any of us be without indulgences such as cream cakes, creme brulee, medium-rare steaks and the rest? Our love for food here at Feast Magazine is no secret of course, but did you know that we also have a love for different types of games, specifically those with food themes?
We have compiled a short list of our favourite food games. The majority of them are video games, but there are also a few board games in our selection. Let us know in the comments if you have ever played any of them or if you have any suggestions of your own!
Overcooked
More than likely the most famous foodie video game of them all, Overcooked is one of three different games in the series and revolves around preparing, cooking and serving a variety of different meals. Overcooked is best with four people all playing on one television as the idea is to work in two teams of two people in order to prepare and cook the different food courses. In fact, Overcooked is a really fun party game for friends and families. There is a campaign to play through or you can choose to play certain levels if you have favourites. The levels get progressively more challenging as you progress, though.
Overcooked is available on a variety of platforms. Personally, we can recommend playing Overcooked on a console with a controller. In addition, two players can use the same controller, so if you have two controllers, that’s enough for four people to play on one television!
Sweet Kingdom and Chocolates
Two slot games are next up on our list. Now, there are thousands of them, all of them different from each in terms of theme, but they all play in a similar way – you click/tap the spin button and hope that you can hit some matching symbols. The interesting aspect of slots such as Sweet Kingdom and Chocolates is that they are both food themed. Everything about both games revolves around food, they both have different foods as symbols too and Chocolates has a special feature called Box of Chocolates which help to increase wins and multipliers.
Sweet Kingdom in particular was released recently, in July 2024 and it is widely regarded as one of the most modern slot games. You can watch a YouTuber playing the game too.
Sushi GO
A fantastic and fun fast-paced card/board game, Sushi GO is a hugely fun game, especially if you are playing with friends or family. The aim of the game is to make as much sushi as possible. However, there are lots of strategies and risks you can take in order to accumulate as many points as possible. The more Sushi you make, the more points you will accumulate and the aim is to get as many points as possible.
Sushi GO may seem pretty complex at first, but it is easy to learn as you play. There are also cards which are a little like wild-cards and are called Puddings. At the end of the game, the player with the most puddings gets an additional six points whilst the player with the least loses six points! The strategy involved in Sushi GO can go pretty deep, especially if you are looking at what your opponents are doing. Sushi GO can be played with two players, but it is recommended to be played with at least three players in total.
Merge Cooking
Merge Cooking is a free to play mobile game which gives you in-game rewards for making different recipes and then selling your dishes to customers. The game starts out with you taking over a street food restaurant. As you progress, you will get the opportunity to move into different locations, with the eventual option of having your own Michelin star restaurant. However, before you do this, you must make enough money by making and selling your best dishes.
There are plenty of different recipes available and you can decide to have your own themed restaurant if you like. For example, you can open up a vegan eating place or one which specialises in sea-food.
Feast on Fun and Challenging Food Themed Games
It is great that we continue to see the happiness and joy which food can bring. Not only does food help to unite different cultures, but it gives plenty of us a passion and sometimes, simply something to get up in the morning for. These days, there are plenty of food related social media accounts too, so people can make money from showing off their food or by creating new recipes for their followers, be it via Instagram, TikTok or Facebook.
