Uncommon Deli has now opened by Tate Modern at 185D Park Street, SE1 9RW. The creation of a husband-and-wife team, Neb and Mina, Uncommon is a gourmet convenience store and cafe for the modern age. Born in 2018 and reinvigorated during lockdown, their first site on Northcote Road quickly established itself as an SW11 food and drink hub.
Uncommon SE1 is a light and lateral space located on the north side of Tate Modern and is part of the new Triptych development. With 169 luxury apartments above it and the esteemed Art Academy and Tate Modern beside it, it is perfectly placed to service tourists, workers, students and residents alike with whatever might tickle their taste buds.
Open from 8am until 8pm you can start your day at Uncommon with a coffee and pastry to take away or eat in and then return for lunch where their deli style sandwiches or salads can be enjoyed at one of their window side tables, on the terrace or as often needs must – al desko. When the inevitable afternoon slump hits, freshly baked cakes are in abundance and on realising there is nothing in the fridge for supper than their range of fresh pasta, sauces, jams, crackers and many more essential pantry items
Wines are also a big part of Uncommon – in time for summer their rose collection is all too tempting. Likewise English sparkling and various champagnes, are available alongside an irresistible collection of red and white wines too.
An ideal place for those all important ‘picky bits’ there is plenty to whet your appetite – be it Italian salami, or Spanish Jamon, Greek olives, English chutneys or just some great roasted nuts – picking what you won’t buy is the hardest part!
Happy hour deals are between 4pm and 6 pm, providing a perfect location for post work drinks or an ideal place to recuperate after a tour of Tate Modern. The Aperol Spritz is a timeless bestseller but a wide selection of beers, wines by the glass and other cocktails are also available, Best enjoyed on their large outdoor terrace which is heated in winter there is little excuse not to sit al fresco.
Carefully sourced ingredients served with kindness, courtesy of long standing friend and employee George – a return visit is far from uncommon. This is a business that prides itself on its regulars who all too soon realise it’s the place they never knew they needed.
