As temperatures warm up and long weekends beckon, Apple TV+ is rolling out a fresh batch of original content—and May is looking especially promising. Whether you’re into scenic road trips with heart or prefer your sci-fi with a splash of sarcasm, the platform has something for every kind of viewer this month. Two standout series are leading the charge: Long Way Home, a new adventure with Ewan McGregor, and Murderbot, a darkly funny dive into the future of artificial intelligence. Here’s what to expect—and why you should add them to your watchlist now.
Ewan McGregor hits the road again in Long Way Home
Spring is in full swing, and Apple TV+ is stepping up its game with a pair of highly anticipated originals launching in May. First up is a familiar favorite: Ewan McGregor is back on two wheels in the latest chapter of his beloved travel series, Long Way Home.
Reuniting with his longtime friend and riding partner Charley Boorman, McGregor embarks on a new motorcycle adventure—this time cruising from Scotland to southern England on a pair of beautifully restored vintage bikes. But, as always, they’re taking the scenic route. Think 15 countries, stops near the Arctic Circle, and detours through Scandinavia, the Baltics, and Eastern Europe.
The series promises the same cinematic beauty, candid moments, and cultural immersion that made previous installments (Long Way Round, Down, and Up) so popular. With David Alexanian and Russ Malkin once again at the helm as directors and producers, Long Way Home is expected to deliver a perfect mix of wanderlust, real human connection, and the unpredictable charm of the open road.
Alexander Skarsgård stars in the delightfully strange Murderbot
If motorcycles and travel tales aren’t your thing, don’t worry—Apple TV+ is also diving deep into quirky sci-fi territory with Murderbot, a new ten-part series premiering May 16, 2025.
Loosely based on the award-winning Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells, this unique blend of dark humor, artificial intelligence, and awkward empathy is unlike anything else currently streaming. At the heart of the story is a rogue security android, played by Alexander Skarsgård, who’s more interested in binging emotional TV dramas than saving lives—but unfortunately, his freelance gig requires both.
The character—disenchanted, sarcastic, and far more human than he wants to admit—is dragged into a dangerous mission while trying to conceal the fact that he’s acting of his own free will. Expect plenty of genre-bending twists and oddly heartfelt moments, all wrapped in a glossy, stylized package that’s signature Apple.
The supporting cast features Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, and Tamara Podemski, and the show is brought to life by the directing duo Chris and Paul Weitz. Produced by Paramount Television Studios, Murderbot looks set to explore timely themes around AI consciousness, individuality, and what it means to feel—with just enough snark to keep things fun.
Episodes will drop weekly, every Friday, through July 11.
Two worlds, one platform: Apple TV+ balances adventure and sci-fi
From soulful road trips to AI-driven existential crises, Apple TV+ is clearly investing in diverse storytelling this May. Long Way Home delivers raw, real-world exploration and emotional depth, while Murderbot leans into offbeat science fiction, appealing to fans of both tech satire and character-driven drama.
Whether you’re craving introspective travel stories or a binge-worthy android with attitude, Apple TV+ has something for you this spring.
