Renowned Spanish Chef, José Pizarro, is launching his brand-new concept, Lolo, in August 2024. Lolo aims to capture the sense of togetherness and joy that José experiences from preparing his favourite dishes at home, offering Bermondsey Street a fresh approach to the José Pizarro brand.
The restaurant will offer an all-day menu of personal favourites and new recipes created with José’s friends and trusted suppliers across the UK and Spain, reflecting his love for both nations alike. Lolo’s concept revolves around the communal aspect of dining. It aims to provide an all-day destination for the Bermondsey Street crowd, where guests can share a delicious breakfast, enjoy a long lunch or evening bites and cocktails with friends or family, whilst guests also have the option to grab a sandwich or a glass of wine to enjoy alone.
The menu showcases a range of dishes, split into an all-day and lunch/dinner offering. With a focus on quality produce and ingredients, the menu highlights José’s relationship with some of the UK’s best suppliers, with coffee from Bristol’s Extract Coffee, Muswell Hill Cheese and fresh fish and seafood from Rockfish.
The all-day breakfast section of the menu is available from early morning to 5pm, offering up eggs as-you-like with accompaniments such as salmon cured in PX sherry as well as a selection of deviled eggs, including options of spicy sobrasada and salted cod and saffron. It also features sandwiches such as the Lolo de Ternera, with succulent beef, confit green peppers and melted cheese and the Bikini (cheese, Jamón 5J and truffle). Pastries and other sweet treats of Torrija, red wine and cheese ice cream, Figs with honey ice cream, and fruit with mint, black pepper and EVOO, also sit in this part of the menu.
The lunch and dinner menu will be available between 12-9:30pm. It will offer fresh salads of octopus, roast tomato, and blackeye bean, as well as salt cod with roasted fennel, chilli, and orange. Additionally, guests can enjoy snacks such as Iberico pork ribs, crisps with mussels in escabeche and black salt. The menu also includes a variety of tinned items such as Anchoa Catalina Gran Reserva, cockles, clams, and mackerel roe, along with boards of fish (tinned and cured), charcuterie, and cheeses.
The curated drinks offering will feature a succinct wine list and cocktail list, with a show stopping range of Bloody Marys to pair with meat, fish and vegetable dishes, such as one with Pickled anchovies and another with Andalusian Gordal olives. The wine list features a refreshing selection of wines from the entire Mediterranean region.
José is excited to be bringing the brand-new concept to the street that he has such an adoration for, “I am thrilled to be bringing Lolo to Bermondsey Street as I have felt that an all-day dining spot is what is missing for locals. The menu features dishes straight from my home kitchen and I am incredibly passionate about bringing these recipes to life within Lolo.”
The restaurant will also take on a new look for the José Pizarro brand, with a Mediterranean feel that transforms from a light and airy cafe in the day to a low-lit, intimate wine bar at night. Warm tones of cream and pink will be used throughout the space to create a welcoming atmosphere, with accents of authentic tiling, rich timber and stone. Art will be sourced through José’s connections and interest in the art world, working with local artist Norman Acroyd. It is set to have 46 covers, with a bar area that includes counter seating also.
