Sport is always fun to watch in the summer. And if you’re a sporty type yourself, you might even enjoy playing some. But as summer comes to a close, you don’t have to drop your love for spectator sports. There are always plenty of events to watch, whether you catch them on TV or you prefer to go and see them live. Autumn might be colder and wetter, but that makes it the perfect season to enjoy your favourite sports with a beer, a burger, and your preferred way to keep warm. Here are some of the biggest events to gear up for, whether you’re already a sports fan or you want to try something new.
Rugby
Fans of rugby union will be getting excited for the men’s World Cup, which in 2023 will be taking place in France throughout most of September and October. The opening match between France and New Zealand takes place on September 8th at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, just one of 10 host cities across the country. Other host cities include Bordeaux, Lille, Paris, and Marseille. Of course, if you’re not looking for a trip to France, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to watch from home instead.
Football
The Fifa Women’s World Cup might have come to an end, but you won’t be short on chances to watch a match this autumn. You can take a look at this year’s updated Premier League fixtures for the season, which is already well underway. Throughout autumn and into the winter and spring of next year, you’ll have endless opportunities to watch your top team pick, or even some of your less favourite teams if you’re inclined. Get ready to dedicate your Saturdays this autumn to catching the latest matches, whether you really don’t want to miss Manchester United v Crystal Palace or you’re desperate to see Brentford v Burnley.
NFL
Anyone who likes something a little different will want to watch out for the NFL 2023 Kick-Off Game on September 7th. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions will be starting off the season in Kansas City for some exciting American action. You’ll be able to catch it via a broadcast if you can’t be there yourself, of course. But if you’re looking for something a bit closer to home, you won’t want to miss the London game. The Jacksonville Jaguars will be going up against the Atlanta Falcons at Wembley Stadium on the 1st of October.
Golf
Golf is the perfect autumn sport. It’s ideal for watching from the warm, cosiness of your home, a pub, or even a holiday cottage. And for fans of golf, there’s so much going on during the autumn that you’ll never be lost for something to watch. In September, there’s the BMW PGA Championship, the women’s Solheim Cup and the Ryder Cup to enjoy, which will continue into October. Then there’s the DP World Tour Championship in November to finish off the season.
Get ready for a season of sport, not in the summer but this autumn as events across many different sports begin.
