Manchester Arndale shoppers were caught by surprise today. Chatting to Hits Radio presenter, Gethin Jones, many shoppers were shocked at the display, revealing just how much extra sugar the average child consumes annually.
This year, Soreen, the nation’s most loved Malt Loaf, are supporting Change4Life, a campaign in England run by Public Health England (PHE), to demonstrate how making just one or two everyday swaps can really make a difference to how much sugar a child is consuming, whilst still giving them a great taste.
“Simply enjoying a Soreen Lunchbox Loaf rather than reaching for a cake bar, cuts the sugar intake by 57% – a shocking amount. We are therefore proud to be working with Change4Life again this year. Our aim here is to really drive home the shocking amounts of additional sugar children are having a year, but to equally raise awareness that there are healthier swaps available, which are just as satisfying,” said Mark Simester, MD at Soreen.
Soreen’s stunt comprised of 210 cake bars, 180 chocolate bars, 50 cereal bars, 310 biscuits, 5 packets of biscuits and 100 sweets, equating to an additional 2,800 sugar cubes, hence demonstrating the amount of sugar over and above the recommended maximum allowance the average child in England consumes.
“Perhaps what many people don’t often realise is that Soreen has always been a healthier snack and is far healthier than many alternatives. For instance, our original Lunchbox Loaves have less than half the sugar than an average cake bar and 85% less fat. It’s a healthier swap and also packs a punch in flavour, which is why it’s a hit with children and families,” Mark added.
The Malt Loaf provider recently featured in a Childhood Obesity News Feature highlighting their commitment to support children, families and health programmes in paving the way for healthier change. Soreen reduced the calories consumed in their products by 27% at the end of 2017, as well as reducing the amount of sugar sold in their products by 4573 tonnes.
As a thoroughly tasty and healthier snack, Soreen isn’t just for children, families and adults around the UK tuck into the deliciously squidgy snack, with over 100 million units baked every year from its Northern bakery. Soreen are offering Lunchbox Loaves in all flavours and in abundance out to shoppers today. Their Lunchbox Loaves are also served in primary schools around the country.
