Mindful Chef is a company that creates recipe boxes and delivers them to their clients. The company works to create healthy recipes that are easy for the consumer to prepare. Mindful Chef is looking to get more than 10,000 signatures on a petition that has been put out for the continued funding for healthy school lunches in Primary Schools.
This petition has been created as a reaction to the Tory party’s plans that would see the this scheme scrapped. The co-founder of the Mindful Chef company and also a personal trainer, Myles Hopper has showed his support for the petition. It is thought that the hot and healthy school lunches are consumed by around 900,000 children that have come from low income families. It is thought that the policy that is currently in place will help the children and the NHS long into the future by teaching them the basics of healthy eating.
It is thought by Myles Hopper that the main education about healthy eating takes place in the early years of school and over the course of the early stages of children’s lives. Therefore by removing these free school lunches that are currently on offer would be detrimental for the future. The NHS has released figures that shows the service spends around £16 billion a year on the direct medical costs of conditions connected to being overweight and obesity including weight related diabetes. This figure is twice what the NHS are spending on Cancer treatment, therefore it is a great investment to educate children about healthy eating is a worthy investment and could mean that there is less strain placed on the NHS going forward.
There are currently only 650 signatures on the petition therefore those who are invested in keeping free school meals as part of school life are urged by the petition organisers to sign and have their voices heard.
