Love him or loathe him people seem to constantly be talking about Liam Gallagher, and now the hype and anticipation for his solo project has been fuelled further as the man himself has confirmed details of his first gig as a solo artist.
Gallagher will be playing London’s Bush Hall as part of the charity Youth Music’s ‘Give a Gig Week’ on the 28th March next year, and he will be joining acts such as Jess Glynne, Plan B and Tom Odell in what will probably be the first opportunity for people to hear the Mancunian’s new material.
This of course isn’t Gallagher’s first musical venture since Oasis, as he formed rock band Beady Eye in 2009 alongside former Oasis members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Chris Sharrock, but it never really hit the heights that brother Noel went on to achieve with the success of his first two albums with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
So will this solo project fare better than Beady Eye? There are no doubts as to whether Liam can perform, and as frontmen come he is certainly one of the best that there has ever been, but he has received critics in regards to whether he has the musical capabilities to produce the quality material that his brother has managed to do over a long period of time.
However, Liam Gallagher did write several Oasis tracks himself such as the fan favourite ‘Songbird’, so the capability is certainly there, and he has confirmed that 10 or 11 songs have been written and are ready to be recorded.
“It’s a record written by me, that’s got all the right ingredients and sounds well tasty” Gallagher told Q Magazine. “You won’t be scratching your chin. It’s not Pink Floyd and it ain’t Radiohead. It’s chin-out music.”
Details are expected to be released soon revealing how you can get tickets to see Gallagher in action at Youth Music’s event, but we will have to wait several months before we probably get to hear any of the new material.
