The Smiths are still to this day one of the most influential bands to have come out of the UK, and now nearly 30 years on from the band’s split it has been revealed that a new 7” vinyl is on its way which will include previously unreleased music from the band.
The new release from the iconic Mancunians will include a demo mix of ‘The Boy with the Thorn in his Side’ from the album The Queen is Dead, along with the two unreleased tracks and a previously unheard version of ‘Rubber Ring’.
This news is likely to cause a bit of buzz and excitement, particularly amongst the loyal fan base of The Smiths, who after all of this time are still hanging onto their hopes of Morrissey and Johnny Marr putting their differences aside and reuniting, even if it was just for one last show.
But this new development in The Smiths saga will have to do for now as the chances of a reunion are extremely slim, and Morrissey has even designed the sleeve for the upcoming release which includes Salford-born actor Albert Finney, who is well known for his roles in films such as Annie, The Bourne Ultimatum and Skyfall.
Reports suggested that The Smiths were at their closest to ever reforming in 2008, but Johnny Marr has now stated that Morrissey’s comments surrounding the Brexit decision has put a stop to any chances of a reunion at all in the future.
Morrissey continuing his successful solo career and selling out arenas all over the world is another possible factor as to why the band’s reunion is so unlikely, but fans can keep dreaming and believing that it will happen.
The 7” does not yet have a confirmed release date, but it will more than likely be a big hit with fans once it becomes available.
