Tomorrow, on World Mental Health Day, a beautifully illustrated children’s mindfulness book series will be launched. Mindful Bee and Friends is a collection of vibrant stories featuring engaging animal characters, offering parents, grandparents, and caregivers a fun and interactive way to introduce mindfulness into daily routines.
According to the National Centre for Social Research, 10% of children and young people (aged 5 to 16) have a clinically diagnosable mental health condition, yet 70% do not receive timely interventions. Mindful Bee, targeted at children aged 3 to 6, aims to encourage early mindfulness practices to foster mental well-being as they grow.
This launch comes at an opportune moment, with many children born during the Covid-19 pandemic now starting school. These children, often referred to as “Covid babies”, faced social isolation, disrupted routines, and heightened anxiety during their formative years. As they begin school, they are likely to experience emotional and social challenges linked to the pandemic’s impact. Mindfulness offers a valuable tool for building resilience, managing stress, and increasing emotional awareness. For caregivers, teaching mindfulness from an early age can help create a nurturing environment that supports emotional regulation and well-being, equipping children with essential skills during this pivotal stage of their development.
Focusing on mindfulness, emotional well-being, and the joy of shared experiences, each book in the series encourages bonding between adults and children. The books are filled with interactive activities designed to promote calm, creativity, and open communication. From simple mindfulness exercises to imaginative storytelling, Mindful Bee provides families with the tools they need to foster a peaceful, mindful atmosphere both at home and outdoors.
The benefits of introducing mindfulness to young children include improved emotional regulation, greater focus, reduced anxiety, increased resilience, and better sleep. Research suggests that children’s mindfulness books can be a great entry point for families wanting to explore these practices together.
The series will be available via a subscription model, with beautifully packaged new books delivered to subscribers’ homes each month. The first book is set to arrive in December, making it an ideal Christmas gift. Each book focuses on a different theme, such as gratitude, compassion, focus, and mindfulness in movement, allowing families to explore mindfulness in various forms at their own pace.
The subscription offers flexibility, with monthly, quarterly, or yearly options available. Each book features lovable animal characters who introduce mindfulness exercises, encouraging bonding and helping children navigate their emotions in a playful and engaging way. Additionally, a “Buy One, Gift One” option is available, allowing families to share the Mindful Bee series with another family, fostering a sense of community and mental well-being for all.
The Mindful Bee series was co-founded by Belinda Prescott-Collins and Stephanie Unthank-Latter, with the goal of supporting children’s emotional well-being. Belinda, inspired by her own mindfulness practices, created the series for her children while on holiday in Spain. Together with Stephanie, a BAMBA-registered mindfulness expert, they co-authored the first 12 books. Stephanie brings her experience of delivering mindfulness programmes across the UK and Europe, with a mission to make mindfulness accessible for young children.
Mindful Bee will be available through schools, libraries, children’s groups, and charitable organisations, ensuring that all families have access to the series and can begin or continue their mindfulness journey.
From Belinda Prescott-Collins (Bee): “The world is so full of distractions, but with Mindful Bee, we’re offering families a chance to pause and be present together. It’s not just about teaching mindfulness—it’s about creating meaningful, screen-free moments that deepen the bond between children and their caregivers.”
From Stephanie Unthank-Latter (Steph): “Children today are growing up in a world filled with uncertainty and change, and mindfulness offers them a way to manage those emotions. With Mindful Bee, we’re empowering young minds to build resilience, creativity, and emotional awareness that will serve them throughout their lives.”
In a world dominated by screens, Mindful Bee offers a refreshing opportunity for parents and grandparents to engage with their children in meaningful ways. By placing mindfulness and family connection at the forefront, Mindful Bee is set to become a cherished part of family routines and moments of calm.
