Nestled in the heart of the Italian countryside east of Tuscany is Umbria, a region celebrated for its pristine natural beauty, captivating history, verdant landscapes and vibrant culture. It will also soon become home to Six Senses Antognolla, a new resort being crafted into the contours of an existing historical estate to be operated by Six Senses. On completion, it will feature residences, hotel suites and a 3,000m2 wellness centre alongside the existing 18-hole championship golf course (designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.) and marks a transformative moment for the ‘green heart’ of Italy.
At the centre of the historical estate is the operating Antognolla 18-hole championship golf course, a pro shop, clubhouse, and La Boiola; a traditionally rustic Italian restaurant. The course, which has twice been named as “Italy’s Best Golf Course” by the World Golf Awards, has year-round playability and a water recycling system that supplies over 80% of the estate’s water.
The original 12th Century castle on the estate, Castello di Antognolla, is being masterfully restored and will be home to guest suites, accompanied by hotel rooms in the surrounding borgo, while a new resort building with further guestrooms Six Senses Spa, and wellness and recreation areas will serve as a backdrop to this rich historic architecture. The resort will have a total of 71 hotel keys and the design is reflective of the region’s rustic charm and entirely sympathetic to its noble history overseen by architecture designers Woods Bagot. Interiors are by Japanese Studio SPIN and reflect the contemporary and serene aesthetic that Six Senses is known for around the world.
“Six Senses Residences Antognolla is the first branded residential resort in Umbria, offering a collection of turnkey residences around this thirteen-hundred-acre estate. The rolling valley is a blissful escape, yet within easy reach of nearby Rome and Florence, inviting future residents to explore the historic, cultural, and gastronomic wonders of the region. Building on the legacy of the notable families who have shaped its heritage, this new community will blend authentic detailing with luxury, nature, and wellness, for the benefit of generations to come. The team is delighted to be working alongside world-renowned Six Senses to open the doors of this countryside estate to buyers and visitors from around the world.” commented Kerry McClinton-King, Founder at Sorores, Development Consultant.
