The award winning restaurant and rehabilitation scheme The Clink Restaurant which is located at HMP Brixton in London. The restaurant has partnered with the owner of Lockie’s Kitchen and star of the Only Way Is Essex James Lock. The partnership is for an event named Lunch with Lockie which took place on Wednesday the 22nd March.
The event managed to raise £2,000 which has gone toward The Clink Charity. The produce for the menu was all generously donated by James Lock and all money that has been raised through the selling of tickets will also go to support the construction of the charity’s next prisoner training project. The training project will be revealed before the end of this year, and hopefully it will be as successful as The Clink Restaurant. It has also been revealed that further funds for the charity have been raised through donations from the attendees of the event as well as through the sale of Clink retail items. The grand total of funds raised by the event was £2,000.
120 socially conscious diners joined James Lock and his girlfriend Yazmin Oukhellou and Pete Wicks, who are also stars of The Only Way is Essex. The food for the evening was a balanced and nutritious three course menu. For the event, each of the dishes that were on the menu were selected from the menu of Lockie’s Kitchen which was created by James and his team. The dishes were also prepared and served to the prisoners that are currently training to become chefs and waiters in the restaurant rehabilitation scheme.
The event was carried out to a high standard by the workers at The Clink, and it goes towards the work done to reduce reoffending rates through social enterprises. It has been shown that training like this could help the inmates secure meaningful work after leaving prison and this will reduce the rate of reoffending.
