Taste Portugal, which is an initiative that has been set up from AHRESP, the Portuguese hospitality & catering association has issued a call to arms for chefs and restaurateurs to champion Portuguese cuisine in the UK.
This move has been made as a part of their plans to put Portuguese gastronomy on a global stage. Taste Portugal will be launching their Rede de Restaurantes Portugueses no Mundo, or RRPM campaign in order to help to create and support an international network filled with Portuguese restaurants that will act as ambassadors for Portuguese cuisine in the UK. This campaign will also have a presence in Spain, France, Germany and Brazil.
A spokesperson for AHRESP, Teresa Vivas has said that in order to drive tourism and exports in Portugal, the cuisine and gastronomy of the country needs to be advertised better and put on the map. Therefore, the organisation is looking to deliver support to those chefs and restaurants that are championing Portuguese gastronomy in their ingredients, flavours and culinary influences and traditions.
The Taste Portugal campaign has launched in the UK this month, with an exclusive press event that took place on the 15th November at Taberna Do Mercado. At this event, it is thought that Teresa explained all about the network of different Portuguese restaurants as well as the plan that has been created by Taste Portugal to support them. Guests at the event were also given the opportunity to try a selection of Portuguese dishes which were made with artisanal ingredients in order to put their point across further.
The team will also be exhibiting at Taste of London 2017 at Tobacco Dock in East London. This event will take place between the 16th and the 19th November. At this event, visitors will have the chance to find out about what makes Portuguese ingredients so special, and further help to promote the country’s gastronomy to a larger audience.
