The innovative labelling technology company Insignia Technologies has revealed that they have
achieved global recognition as part of the 29 th Dupont Awards. Insignia managed to win the award for
their Freshtag Product and managed to pick up the accolade ae for the cutting edge technology usage
behind the labeling product.
Insignia Technologies is a Scottish company that has managed to win the Gold Award at the Dupont
Awards. The Freshtag product is a new monitoring system of both time and temperature that can then
be linked in order to create an entire supply chain that stretches form the production of a product to the
store. The purpose of Freshtag is to provide the information that means food can be consumed at its
optimal point of freshness. It is thought that monitoring the freshness of produce could also lead to
reduced amount of food waste.
The Freshtag label is programmed to change colors over the period of a set number of days or when the
produce is at specified temperatures. The tag works so that the colour will change more rapidly if the
temperature of the produce increases. This means that any issues with temperature when storing the
produce can be highlighted and then addressed. The labels are created at a low cost which means that it
is possible for them to be used on individual products or cases throughout shipping and transportation.
It is thought that the Freshtag will encourage good behaviour and deter from any unsafe storage
throughout the supply chain by clearly visually demonstrating when an item is at its peak quality or
when it has depreciated or is perhaps unsafe. It is thought that pointing out any flaws in the supply
chain could also lead to the shelf life of a product being extended as it will allow for the produce to be
stored at the optimum temperature throughout the supply chain.
