Jesmond Dene House is delighted to welcome Gareth Rayner as its new Executive Chef. Bringing years of expertise and a dedication to culinary excellence, Gareth is set to redefine the dining experience at one of Newcastle’s most esteemed boutique hotels.
A Hartlepool native, Gareth has built an outstanding reputation in fine dining, having worked at prestigious venues including The Gin Trap in Norfolk, where he achieved three AA Rosettes as Chef Patron. He also played a key role in opening Forge at Middleton Lodge and held the position of Executive Chef at Wynyard Hall.
With a strong focus on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients, Gareth’s vision is to honour the legacy of Jesmond Dene House, bringing back the cherished dining experience while adding a modern, innovative twist. His commitment to ‘neighbourhood dining’ will be reflected in a constantly evolving menu, celebrating local produce and adapting to the changing seasons. Guests can expect to enjoy his new creations from March at Fern, with dishes that offer a balance of refinement and accessibility, inspired by the flavours of the North East.
Sharing his enthusiasm for the role, Gareth said: “I’m super excited to be joining Jesmond Dene House and to have the opportunity to craft menus that showcase the best seasonal produce. I aim to create a dining experience that reflects this iconic venue’s heritage and contemporary charm whilst elevating its already great reputation. It’s an exciting challenge to be a part of improving on something that’s already so good!”
This significant appointment follows the acquisition of Jesmond Dene House by The Kronen Collection in 2023, ushering in a new chapter for the hotel. The group’s recent purchase of Borrowdale Gates Hotel in the Lake District further expands its portfolio, promising an enriched luxury hospitality experience.
Welcoming Gareth to the team, Christina Stephenson, Group Sales and Marketing Manager, commented: “Jesmond Dene House is thrilled to welcome Chef Gareth Rayner to our family. His culinary expertise is perfectly aligned with our mission to deliver an unparalleled guest experience. It feels like a new beginning for Fern and Jesmond Dene House, bringing dining back to what people once knew and loved, with a contemporary touch.”
Gareth will lead a 10-strong kitchen team and has plans to further expand and enhance the dining experience at Jesmond Dene House. His appointment paves the way for seasonal tasting menus, exclusive dining events, and a continued commitment to sustainability and high-quality local ingredients.
