McDonald’s has implemented a substantial price hike, with their hash browns now commanding a hefty £1.99.
For fervent enthusiasts of fast food, this escalated cost applies when ordering through Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats, casting a shadow over the once-affordable morning indulgence.
Interestingly, McDonald’s official app offers a slightly more lenient rate of £1.39 for the same item.
Joey Ramsay, a disgruntled customer, vented his frustration, stating, “I seldom voice concerns about expenditure. However, Just Eat demanding £1.99 for a solitary McDonald’s hash brown is, without a doubt, one of the most exorbitant impositions I’ve ever encountered.”
Lily Calder chimed in, expressing her disbelief, “I had contemplated placing an order for McDonald’s treasured hash browns, but I was taken aback to discover that they now cost a staggering £1.99 each. For a lone hash brown? During my tenure there, they were merely 79p apiece.”
This marks the second price escalation within this year, with the earlier elevation in May arriving at the same £1.99 price point. Remarkably, this represents a staggering 152% increase from the cost prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, which was just three years ago in 2019 when a McDonald’s hash brown could be savored for a mere 79p.
This price hike has transpired amidst the backdrop of a pervasive cost-of-living predicament, an issue further exacerbated by concerns of a potato shortage looming over the UK. British farmers are veering away from traditional potato cultivation, grappling with soaring energy expenses and relentless inflationary pressures.
At present, McDonald’s has not issued any official response to these developments.
