In an early nod to the festive season, Morrisons has begun selling mince pies in stores – a full 16 weeks prior to Christmas.
The supermarket giant has made packs of four puff pastry mince pies available for purchase. However, these pies come with a short shelf life, as they are best before September 5th.
Morrisons’ “The Best” deep-filled mince pies, also available in packs of four, offer a slightly longer shelf life, expiring on September 11th.
Additionally, boxes of six traditional shortcrust mince pies are also on offer, with all four boxes priced at £1.75.
The mince pies, produced in the store’s onsite bakery, were spotted at a Morrisons branch in Fleet, Hampshire, on September 3rd. This occurrence coincided with the return of students to school at the conclusion of the summer holidays.
With Christmas Day just 16 weeks away as of September 4th, the early availability of these seasonal treats has raised eyebrows. One shopper expressed their surprise, noting the imminent heatwave and questioning the timing of selling mince pies so far in advance of Christmas.
In response, a Morrisons spokesperson explained, “We start selling mince pies a few months before Christmas because our customers tell us they really enjoy them.”
While the early release of mince pies may raise questions about the timeline, it seems Morrisons is catering to customers’ cravings for these traditional holiday treats well in advance.
