Mr Hyde’s #NationalBurgerDay is back for its sixth year on Thursday August 23, with more than 300 restaurants giving 20% off burgers to those who download a discount voucher at nationalburgerday.co.uk.
Many of the UK’s best loved burger restaurants are involved – including Honest Burgers, Byron, Bleecker, Dip & Flip and Temper – and some are producing one-off specials for the day.
Butchies will have the Buffalo Hyde: two pieces of buttermilk chicken slathered in Buffalo sauce and blue cheese ranch, stacked in a butter toasted brioche bun. GBK are serving the Prawn Star: a beef patty tapped with two wasabi tempura prawns, thousand island sauce, American cheese, shredded lettuce, picked onion, a sesame seed bun. Heliot Steakhouse has the Savoury Donut Burger: a 300-gram, 60-day dry-aged burger sandwiched in a donut bun.
On Thursday August 30, the National Burger Day Party will take place at Street Feast’s Hawker House (five minutes’ walk from Canada Water station). The legendary Beef Chief is heading over from Amsterdam, while for the first time ever there will be a vegan burger, courtesy of Gizzi Erskine’s Pure Filth.
Each of the 17 burger vendors have produced a burger especially for the event – including a collaborative effort from Flank and Salt Shed. Some are making their debut (Pocho, Truffle, Flank, Salt Shed, Pure Filth), others are returning heroes (Bleecker, Mother Flipper, Honest Burgers). There’ll also be two dessert shops and a chip shop. You can buy tickets here.
A £15 ticket for the event includes an icy-cold Budweiser and a Pickleback shot.
