Herbal tea specialists Natur Boutique have added three new drinks to their range; Organic Burdock Root, Passion Flower and Bitter Melon.
Whilst the company are keen to point out that they are not making any direct health claims about their specific teas, they have chosen to launch these more unusual drinks based on research carried out on their ingredients.
Passion flower is perhaps the best known of these ingredients and is linked to sleep and relaxation, but whilst other companies have utilised passion flower in blends, Natur Boutique’s tea represents one of the first to market to offer a single ingredient option. Strong human studies on herbal teas are rare, but there has been a double-blind placebo controlled human study published on passion flower tea, which suggests it can improve sleep quality1.
Another tea to have had human trials published on it is burdock root and Natur Boutique’s tea is the first organic version of the drink in the UK. Research has highlighted a number of potential benefits of burdock root tea, but a human study looking at how it may help those with osteoarthritis2 presents perhaps the most compelling evidence.
The final tea in the trio is Bitter Melon. Research3,4 into bitter melon’s benefits have shown it may have potential to benefit those with diabetes, or at risk of developing it, but as a food it is very difficult to get hold of in this country. Natur Boutique hope their tea will provide an easy and accessible way for people to include the ingredient in their everyday diets.
“We’ve spent a long time looking for teas to add to our range that we genuinely believe in and we’re delighted with the trio we’ve chosen. I believe all three bring something new and add genuinely unique products to the herbal tea category. We look forward to running a PR campaign to inform and educate consumers on them and hope people will enjoy them for their taste as much as their potential benefits.” – Anton Le Khak, Director at Natur Boutique
