Jeroboams has recently been appointed as agents for a family-owned boutique winery Clos de Luz. The winery that the London wine merchant has been appointed agent of is located in the Almahue Valley.
70 miles South East of Santiago in the Rapel region, there are only 300 hectares of the Almahue Valley, which is where the Cloz de Luz is based. The family run winery, operated by Gabriel Edwards has 33 of these precious hectares for his business and is able to produce three different wines.
The site of Clos de Luz was first purchased in 1892 by Gabriel Edward’s great grandfather, with the vineyards first planted in 1945 by Gabriel’s Grandmother. These vineyards allow the family to produce their Carménère, which is considered to be one of the oldests productions in Chile.
The current Wine Director of Clos de Luz is Peter Mitchell MW believes that the wines produced here are some of the best premium Chilean offerings. The area is commonly known amongst locals as the birthplace of Carménère and the conditions offer the produce an oakier influence.
Clos de Luz produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Grenache as well as their Carménère, in reflection of the freshness created by the conditions in the Almahue Valley. The Valley normally experiences a wide range of temperature variations throughout the year which means that the vintage can be produced slightly earlier. This apparently can lead to the wine having a more elegant taste.
Jeroboams works to procure and sell a wide range of wines. The group who work in London, are known for being able to seek out the most interesting wines on offer as well as offering a selection of wines from a vast geographical location. The team work in order to provide the best for their customers and their Private Sale team and Buyers push to make sure that the Fine Wine Department of Jeroboams is of the highest standard in order to meet the demand of the market.
