In a heartwarming tale of love transcending age and circumstance, two pensioners found each other and got engaged in a Wetherspoons pub, all thanks to their chance encounter at another budget chain establishment.
Adrian Stebbeds and Lynda Bird’s love story began a year ago when they crossed paths at The Red Lion pub in Skegness, Lincolnshire. Both were enjoying holidays in the charming seaside town at the time.
Adrian, a sprightly 73-year-old, was on a caravan holiday with his friends, while Lynda was staying at a nearby hotel with her sister. Their destinies intertwined as they shared evening meals at The Red Lion.
Their friendship blossomed, and they continued to meet for dinners at The Sir Nigel Gresley, a Wetherspoons pub located in Swadlincote, Derbyshire.
It was at this very Wetherspoons that Adrian decided to take the plunge and propose to Lynda. His heartfelt proposal was met with an enthusiastic “yes” from Lynda, sealing their commitment to a life together.
Both Adrian and Lynda share a deep affection for Wetherspoons. Adrian’s preferred libation is a refreshing Ruddles Best, while Lynda enjoys a glass of Chardonnay.
Adrian, hailing from Norwich, remarked, “At our age, neither of us wanted to waste any time. Wetherspoon has been a big part of our life, and now it’s part of our story.”
Rob Winterton, the manager of The Sir Nigel Gresley, shared his sentiments, saying, “It’s a great story, and they make a lovely couple. Everyone here wishes them all the best for a happy future.”
In the midst of life’s twists and turns, Adrian and Lynda found love in the most unexpected of places—a Wetherspoons pub—and their engagement is a testament to the enduring power of love and human connection.
