When you are travelling anywhere as a family it’s not just about ensuring the kids are happy but it’s about making sure that everybody has a great experience. And this is harder than you think. But from the perspective of any parent, fun should be the overriding goal. But when you are travelling further afield to a place like Kuala Lumpur you need to find things that are going to challenge the kids but also make sure you all have fun as a family. Luckily, Kuala Lumpur is a place with so many different theme parks, animal farms, and entertainment galore. Let’s give you a rundown of some of the best places.
Skytrex Adventure in Shah Alam
A fantastic adventure activity place for all sorts of children and adults. If you are looking to stay in the Selangor area, you could find a house for rent in Cyberjaya and truly make the most of this location. But this activity centre is located in the Shah Alam National Agricultural Park and is a fantastic way to put your strength to the test. With 15 challenges with levels of difficulty, it is perfect for families with children of all ages.
District 21 Kuala Lumpur in Putrajaya
Another adventure theme park, but in the IOI City Mall Putrajaya, there are a wide variety of obstacle courses. This one may be a bit more suitable for older children due to its post-apocalyptic setting. The wide variety of steel and graffiti with platforms, chains, and suspended ropes makes it a challenging environment rather than a fluffy adventure for younger families. Upon entering, visitors will go through a decontamination chamber with protective gloves and non-slip socks. And after the briefing, you are free to roam, just as long as you stay on the right side of the rules and proportions. But from there, you’ve got LED climbing walls, trampolines, obstacle courses, and everything you want to get those muscles working.
Kuala Lumpur National Zoo & Aquarium in Ampang
Something a bit more natural for families that love animals. The Kuala Lumpur National Zoo and Aquarium covers 110 acres with 5,000 specimens, coming from 476 species of fish, reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and birds. For panda lovers, two endangered giant pandas coming from Sichuan will delight. The Malaysian elephants exhibit and the reptile park are two other highlights. It’s not just a zoo where you walk around staring at animals through glass windows, there are also some fantastic animal shows held daily at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. For those that want to get more interactive with the animals, there are also guided tours and a number of seminars. Overall, a fantastic experience for the family.
Petrosains Discovery Centre in KLCC
Based in the Petronas Twin Towers, this is ideal for the inquisitive child. This 7,000 square metres interactive science centre provides hours of fun. This complex is mainly dedicated to petroleum science- something that many children don’t learn in school! While this may not sound fun, its wide variety of fossils and exhibits over its 11 interactive showcases is very popular with school children. Easy to navigate, the exhibits are extremely interactive and you can go in whatever order you want. Never has petroleum been so interesting!
KidZania in Petaling Jaya
This is is something that many parents would probably like here in the UK! It is an entertainment centre that is designed to prepare children for the world of work. And while this may seem pretty dull, this mini-city with child-size replicas of cars and buildings, children take the opportunity to work in more than 90 different types of jobs. From firefighter to pilot, the children have to complete the task of going around the city to deliver copies of the newspaper or collect paper for recycling. While it’s not all about the daily grind that we parents know all too well, there are the things that children will love too, especially the Chika’s Locker Fashion Boutique where your daughter can sample the fashion boutique and strut their stuff on a catwalk.
Sunway Lagoon in Petaling Jaya
No family holiday is complete without a water theme park! This 80-acre park is an experience you have to be part of. With a revolving pirate ship, surf beach and, of course, plenty of water slides, this amusement park is going to please everybody. The different zones also include a wildlife park with more than 90 species of animals.
If you want to explore Kuala Lumpur as a family you’ve got to find the right attractions to please the kids. In KL, there are plenty.
