Despite their mouth-watering taste and convenience, burgers are by far one of the messiest foods to eat, but did you know there are some expert-approved ways to eat this delicious meal?
To find out more, Burgerism sat down with Leanne from @instascrann_mcr, a popular Insta-foodie and burger lover, who shares her top tips on how to correctly devour the tasty treat that is burgers. Afterall, burgers are a great way to lift your mood this Autumn with a recent survey*, carried out by Manchester-based burger delivery brand, Burgerism, revealed that in fact, 93% of UK feel happiest when they’ve eaten or even ordered a restaurant-quality burger.
So, let’s dig in…
1. A lot of flippin’ fun
Leanne comments: “You may have heard of this one before, but it really does work – flipping the burger upside down means it will hold together better, especially if you’ve got a double patty on your hands! The flip trick works well due to the bottom bun being slightly bigger and stronger, so it’s able to hold more of the good stuff in.”
2. Straight down the middle
Leanne says: “Another way to eat a burger effectively and with the least mess, is to cut it in half. Simple, yet effective, cutting the burger in half gives you more control when you’re eating it. We know it may be difficult but try to also take smaller bites if you can, this will help reduce the amount of mess.”
3. Keep it under wraps
“My fourth tip is to keep it wrapped up – this is one of my favourite ways to eat a burger, with minimal fuss, and all you need is the foil. Wrap up half of the burger tightly, which will stop burger juices, sauce and cheese from falling out, it will also help to keep it warmer for longer. This tip is particularly good for those in-car eaters, who just can’t wait until they get home!”
4. Deconstruct and demolish
Having a night in at home? Why not try deconstructing your burger for a sprinkle of sophistication? Leanne says: “This trick is a little more controversial, but simply remove all the filling and display the contents of the burger however you wish on a plate. Grab a knife and fork and dig in – no mess guaranteed!”
5. Embrace the mess
“The final tip from me is to leave your inhibitions at the door embrace the messiness that is burger eating. The best thing about eating a burger is to just accept this cheesy, messy yet delicious meal. Embrace it, as there aren’t many foods where it is acceptable to eat with your hands and have sauce dripping all over the place. Act confident and no one will question you – the messier the burgers, the more delicious in my opinion!”
