Have you heard the buzz? To celebrate World Bee Day, Lidl launches ‘Lidl Bee-rs’ in small but mighty six-packs, with each bottle containing inverted sugar syrup specifically designed to revive sleepy and fading wild bees and pollinators in need of a pick me up.
The first-of-its-kind adorable six pack aims to empower people to help bees when they see one in need of a cooling ‘brewski’ on the go. The campaign launches at a time when the health of wild bees is more important than ever, with both urban and rural areas experiencing a decline in flowers and greenery to fuel them. In fact, according to the WWF x Bug Life report of 2023, 40% of bee species in the UK are undergoing “dramatic rates of decline”. *
The tiny 2cm tall ‘Bee-rs’ are only available via a free giveaway on Lidl’s website from today – providing lucky consumers with an opportunity to help wild bees in need (and get their cuteness fill!).
To enter the giveaway, consumers simply need to apply at https://www.lidl.co.uk/c/lidl-bee-rs/s10045719
To support our fuzzy friends and the efforts of The British Bee Charity, Lidl is also donating £10,000 – dedicated to supporting bee conservation efforts and raising awareness of pollinator health. The money will be used to educate children in schools up and down the UK and help the next generation to understand the importance of protecting our precious pollinators. Visit britishbeecharity.com to find out more.
Greg Bool, Chairman of The British Bee Charity, said:
“So much of our flora, fauna and food depends on pollinators – we’re hugely excited to partner with Lidl this World Bee Day to give bees and other pollinators the spotlight and support they need. Lidl’s Bee-rs campaign is a great opportunity for nature lovers to give local biodiversity a little helping hand, and Lidl’s donation will support funding thousands of pupils getting out and about in nature and learning about the precious ecosystems around them.”
🐝How to use the bee-rs🐝
- If you see a wild bee in need (not flying, on a patio, windowsill, or the floor – looking tired/slow) take a Bee-r to them – but only if there are no flowers around, as nectar is the best option!
- Pour a small amount of the syrup out of the bottle and onto the ground in front of the bee. This will help to revive them so they can travel to a flower and find a natural food source.
- Take the ‘Bee-r’ away from them, do not leave it out where other bees and insects might be able to find it – this can cause robbing behaviour*.
- One of the best things you can do to support wild bees and other pollinators is to simply plant bee-friendly flowers in your garden or plant pots at home. Nectar-rich blooms like lavender, sunflowers, and wildflowers are great to provide lots of food and shelter.
- You can refill our Bee-r bottles using white granulated sugar 50% and warm water (not boiling) 50% to make a clear dissolved syrup.
