Gautam Rice, the largest supplier of high quality rice in the UAE, as part of its ongoing commitment to community support and in alignment with today’s World Food Day theme, is proud to highlight its significant contributions to hunger over the past several years.
Its efforts have directly supported communities in both the UAE and India, ensuring food and essential supplies reach those in need during some of the most challenging times in recent history.
The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN, organiser of World Food Day, reports that the world’s farmers produce enough food to feed more than the global population, yet hunger persists. Around 733 million people are facing hunger in the world due to repeated weather shocks, conflicts, economic downturns, inequality and the pandemic. This impacts the poor and vulnerable most severely, many of whom are agricultural households, reflecting widening inequalities across and within countries.
Food is the third most basic human need after air and water. Managing Director, Gautam Aggarwal says: “Our work reflects the goals of World Food Day by fighting hunger and supporting some of the most vulnerable communities. With a total contribution of over AED 1.5 million, we remain dedicated to providing nourishment and essential goods to those in need.”
