Get ready, Manchester! A culinary revolution is about to hit the city centre in Ancoats. ‘COOK! with the Vegetarian Society’ will be opening its doors later this year, this innovative venue promises a vibrant array of workshops, supper clubs and flavour packed experiences. COOK! are the food experts from the campaigning charity the Vegetarian Society. Returning to its roots, the charity, one of Manchester’s oldest, also moves its headquarters to its new home in Manchester city centre.
The Vegetarian Society and COOK! move into what was originally an electricity sub-station in Jersey Street, Ancoats. The building offers COOK! a stylish and accessible venue and is set to become a hub for its community cooking, public workshops and professional training making plant-based and vegetarian cooking more exciting and inclusive than ever before.
Sam Linford- Platt, Head of COOK! commented: “We cannot wait to open our doors and start cooking in our new kitchens. Our venue will be focal point for plant-based and vegetarian cooking, and we will have something for everyone from our short social supper clubs through to full training weeks and community classes. Being fully accessible is also something we’ve been striving for, and our new home will give us the opportunity to welcome everyone to explore the delights of amazing vegetarian and vegan dishes.”
Richard McIlwain, Chief Executive, the Vegetarian Society, echoed this sentiment: “I’m delighted to announce our return to Manchester city centre. Ancoats is the perfect location for us, placing us at the vibrant heart of this great city. As pioneers of the plant-based movement, we’ve been creating great food and positive change for over 176 years. Our new base will strengthen our campaign for a better future for animals, people and the planet.”
A variety workshops, supper clubs, and more will be available to book from August, with the official opening in October 2024. Stay in the loop on all the exciting developments and sign up for updates at www.vegsoc.org/cook.
