Watersmeet Hotel & Restaurant in Woolacombe, North Devon, is delighted to announce that it is further strengthening its team with the appointment of new head chef John Cairns.
John arrives at Watersmeet from The Royal George in Appledore where, as executive chef, he achieved several awards, 2 AA Rosettes among them.
Prior to The Royal George, John worked as head chef alongside Thomas Carr at the Michelin-starred Olive Room in Ilfracombe.
Born and raised in Barnstaple, John has spent most of his career working in North Devon. His new role actually sees him coming full circle, as he first worked at Watersmeet as chef de partie back in 2014.
John will continue to build on the hotel’s reputation for fine dining and supporting local produce and suppliers. He plans to refine the existing menu and take advantage of the property’s close proximity to the sea by introducing new fish and shellfish dishes.
John joins Watersmeet at a pivotal time for this much lauded property. Awarded Condé Nast Johansen’s hugely prestigious Best Waterside Hotel for UK and Ireland 2024, the hotel recently unveiled some exciting new changes, spearheaded by the luxurious and spacious Combesgate Room and the creation of a multipurpose area on the lawn for informal and formal alfresco dining and smaller wedding ceremonies and private parties.
Commented Watersmeet’s owner Amanda James: “We are delighted that John is joining our dynamic team and bringing with him all his considerable skills and experience. I know he will play a key part in consolidating our position as North Devon’s premier boutique hotel.”
