The perennial Christmas favourite has been given a major glow up by Cockburn’s – the UK’s number one bestselling port
We all love a good glow up and this Christmas Cockburn’s Port is serving up an extreme makeover of its beloved range to bring extra flair and flavour to proceedings. Those in the know have always appreciated how delicious, food-friendly and complex port is, but now it genuinely looks cool and is even better for the planet.
Cockburn’s Special Reserve, the world’s bestselling reserve port, has undergone a sophisticated transformation and now comes in a lighter bottle that will save 432 tonnes of glass and 256 tonnes of CO2 annually, which is the equivalent of CO2 captured per year by up to 11,776 trees.
The luxurious Cockburn’s 10-Year-Old Tawny, along with two other port treasures – the Cockburn’s 2019 Late Bottled Vintage and Cockburn’s 2014 Quinta dos Canais Vintage– look unrecognisable and feature bespoke bottle illustrations created by artist Song Kang. The labels share some of the rich stories behind the brand’s history, its vineyards, and the twin cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, which have shaped Cockburn’s 200 years of innovation.

Over the festive season, the expert advice from Cockburn’s is that its ports should be served either slightly chilled (for white and tawny styles) or at room temperature (for ruby). You’ll want to ditch the tiny port glasses too, because these wines are best served in a proper wine glass where their depth of flavour and aroma can emerge.
The succulent ripe fruit flavours and natural sweetness of Cockburn’s Special Reserve, and Cockburn’s Late Bottled Vintage 2019 and Cockburn’s 2014 Quinta dos Canais Vintage Port depth are wonderful to savour neat but also make these wines a brilliant partner to classic Christmas cheeses likes Cheddar and Stilton or literally any chocolate you fancy – whether in tart, truffle or Terry’s format.
The nutty, dried fruit character and luscious sweetness of the Cockburn’s 10 Year Old Tawny is equally happy sipped neat or with food, so you can enjoy it as a sophisticated aperitif or a delicious pairing for decadent desserts like sticky toffee pudding, pecan pie, panettone and Christmas cake.

Cockburn’s was founded in 1815 and has spent the past 200 years marching to the beat of its own drum as the disruptive, maverick face of the port trade. It was one of the first port houses to plant vineyards in the remote Douro Superior, played a key role in resurrecting the iconic Touriga Nacional grape variety, and has a tradition of producing Vintage Port even in the most challenging years.
Now, Cockburn’s is decidedly shaking off the dusty perception of port to show how flavourful, fun and exciting this drink can be at Christmas and beyond.
