Model, author, podcast and fashion designer Emily Ratajowski doesn’t shy away from making statements. Her latest Instagram post taking a stroll in a classic string bikini has done just that!
The swimwear experts at Lounge predict the minimalist bikini style to be a big hit this summer, as fans and holiday-goers take inspiration from Emma. Lounge’s string bikini offering – the ‘tan luxe bikini’, has seen a 57% increase in sales in the last month alone, with customers planning for festival season and warmer weather.
Emily Blount, Head of Product at Lounge comments: “We’ve seen the uprise in Y2K fashion, from cargo pants, to lace camis, and swimwear trends are no different! The string bikini is the noughties-inspired staple that should be in everyone’s luggage for a spring or summer getaway – not only is it a celeb favourite at the moment, it also has so many benefits too!”
So, why do you need this itsy-bitsy bikini for your travels we hear you ask?
Not only is it extremely versatile, but also super practical – Emily shares her expert opinions on why string bikinis are a winner this year:
Find your perfect fit
Emily shares: “The string-tie function of these bikinis means that they’re super versatile and can be adjusted easily so you can find your perfect fit, that both looks incredible but also feels comfortable.
“If you’re lounging on the beach with a book for example, you might be partial to a looser fit. In contrast, if you’re swimming in a pool, or the sea, you’ll likely require a tighter fit to keep you secure, and feeling confident during these more physical activities.
“The string bikini also compliments all body shapes and sizes, and we encourage all women to celebrate their beautiful bodies through their swimwear choices.”
Turn away the tan lines
Emily comments: “Whilst some people enjoy the look of tan-lines, others like to aim for an even tan when they’re on a sunny getaway. If this is you, the string bikini is a fantastic option for this, as you’re easily able to untie the strings and leave your neckline exposed, without worrying about a potential nip-slip.
“Whatever your preference with tan-lines, the most important thing is to ensure you’re sunbathing safely, topping up on that SPF, and staying hydrated.”
SO many styles
Emily says: “There’s no one way to tie a string bikini – the beauty of this style is that it is just so versatile! There’s the classic halterneck tie, which is often the go to for many – but you can also tie both straps at the front, creating a bandeau style top.
“Not only that, you can be creative with the way you tie the straps around the back, for example, diagonally to create a cross design on the back.”
Emily adds: “There’s no doubt that we’ll be seeing more string bikinis this spring and summer, and we hope all women feel empowered to take on this classic noughties style.”
