A recent report has highlighted the biggest food creators on the app, the trends they inspire and TikTok’s ever-changing influence on our eating habits.
-
The data shows over four fifths (82%) of TikTok users see recipes and food content on their feeds on a weekly basis, with almost 1 in 6 (14%) claiming they see food content daily.
Even Paris has fallen prey to the TikTokification of food, with the giant croissant epitomising the trend—with social media sparking a wave of dishes crafted more for visual appeal than taste.
Whether it’s a never before tried food combination or a bizarre cooking technique, TikTok is the platform for the birth of viral food trends.
Up to one minute of video content is just the right amount of time to capture and hold someone’s attention, and inspire users with a recipe or food hack to try at a specific restaurant or at home.
But just how much influence does TikTok have over the foods we eat and how we cook them? The TikTokification of food is evident, and data from food subscription box provider, HelloFresh, reveals all in their recent TikTok Food Trends Report.
The data highlighted that over four fifths (82%) of TikTok users view recipes and food content on their feeds on a weekly basis. Whereas over a quarter (27%) said they view food content on their feeds around 3-4 times per week.
Over half (54%) said they cook recipes they’ve seen on TikTok on a weekly basis. Around 1 in 5 (19%) said they cook recipes they’ve seen on TikTok between 3-4 times per week.
HelloFresh’s Senior Recipe Development Manager, Mimi Morley, commented: “We are a nation united by food. Whether we’re engaging in lunchtime conversations with colleagues, or using a midweek meal as an opportunity to connect with our families, the communal aspect intertwined with food is part of what makes us human.
The findings of this report are fascinating – showing a real shift in where we look for recipe inspiration, to how we cook and how we eat. From the most influential creators from last year, to the foodie trends and hacks billions of users have got on board with this year, TikTok’s power for good in the culinary world is something to behold.”
