A woman’s attempt at a lip tint procedure has gone viral on Instagram after the treatment left her with lips resembling “The Joker” from the Batman series.
Alex Murphy, originally from Boston but now residing in London, often shares humorous snippets of her life with her 201,000 Instagram followers. However, a recent beauty treatment took a bizarre twist.
Seeking to address her self-consciousness about her lips, which were affected by a stroke she had 10 years ago, the 34-year-old decided to undergo a lip tint procedure at a clinic in Hertfordshire. The procedure, known as “lip blush,” involves tattooing the lips to add colour and definition.
“After having my stroke back in 2012, my lips have never been the same. The colour has faded pale and in the winter they turn this ugly blue shade. So when I saw this lip blush option, I had to give it a go!” Alex explained.
The procedure, lasting around 90 minutes, initially seemed successful. However, Alex’s lips swelled up significantly shortly after the treatment, leading her to liken her appearance to “a duck” or “The Joker.”
“They told me that this might happen and I might look a bit crazy on the first day,” Alex mentioned.
Although the swelling subsided by the following day, Alex decided to share her amusing ordeal – along with photos of her enlarged lips – on Instagram. The video she posted received over 148,000 views, 3,210 likes, and numerous comments from surprised viewers.
While some users shared their own experiences, others found humour in the situation. One user mentioned, “Haha, I had that done last year and looked like I had a botched filler job. It was hilarious.” Another noted, “Mine were like that at first but they go down loads within a day and the results are amazing!”
Despite the initial shock, Alex later revealed that her lips had returned to their normal size and shape. She added that the procedure had achieved the desired outcome of giving her lips a natural and appealing appearance.
