As the calendar ticks into 2024, fans of American sports have two of the biggest sporting events looming large on the horizon. Sports are an integral part of the Stateside psyche, ingrained in the cultural fabric as a passion that runs deep. For many, Sundays are reserved for the gridiron, a day to gather around with friends and family, huddled in front of the TV, cheering on our favorite teams.
But on one special Sunday in February, the football field is front and center in nearly every household in the Land of the Free. Here are the two biggest sporting events that are coming our way thick and fast.
Super Bowl LVIII
The Super Bowl is the most-awaited and exciting event of the year. The 58th edition of the Super Bowl will be held on February 11th at the state-of-the-art Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. While the amphitheater is usually the home of the Raiders, this winter two other teams will call the arena their home for one night only. But who those teams will ultimately be remains to be seen.
If you’ve seen the Super Bowl winner odds, you’ll already be aware that the San Francisco 49ers have been made the short-priced +200 favorites for glory this year. With an arsenal containing last year’s Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy at quarterback, and the unstoppable force that is Christian McCaffrey at running back, the Niners will take some stopping in their hunt for a first Lombardi Trophy in 30 years. The former of that duo has been made a +400 favorite on websites that allow you to bet on NFL to win the MVP award in this year’s big game, and it remains to be seen whether he and his NoCal teammates can live up to their billing.
They topped the NFC and head into the postseason as the conference’s top seed. However, they are expected to face stiff competition from the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles – who defeated them to become NFC champions last season – and the Dallas Cowboys, who seem intent on ending decades of hurt themselves. Over in the AFC, Lamar Jackson and his Baltimore Ravens also look ominous while the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs and their quarterback supreme Patrick Mahomes can never be written off, no matter what kind of form they’re in.

WrestleMania XL
WWE’s WrestleMania is the biggest professional wrestling event in the world. However, it has transcended wrestling to become a marquee entertainment extravaganza. Last year, the likes of Snoop Dogg, Bad Bunny and George Kittle were featured front and center, which is a testament to the star power the event draws in. This year, further celebrities are expected to be in attendance at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on April 7th and 8th.
The event is expected to be headlined by reigning and defending Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. The Tribal Chief is in the midst of the fourth longest title reign in company history and has run roughshod over the company for more than 1,200 days. He defeated 2023 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes in the main event of last year’s ‘Mania, and the dup are expected to face off once more in Philly. That’s providing a certain Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson doesn’t deal the American Nightmare an almighty blow in his quest to finish the story.
