Clayton Fields, businessman and technology executive, started when he was in college and needed more money to buy groceries. He did everything possible to make ends meet while attending the University of Tennessee on academic scholarships.
Fields worked retail jobs and waited tables before eventually managing the front house of a restaurant. As hard as it was to attend college and work long hours, his tenacious appetite for success was born in those early days.
Fields, a native of Woodstock, Georgia, later joined a sales team one summer and offered technology solutions to people in their homes and small business owners. He quickly realized how important trust and relationships are in establishing business relationships, and Fields was determined to help people more than chase after dollars.
“To me, success is about making a meaningful impact on someone’s life,” Fields shared during a recent interview. “My goal now is to give back to the next generation, and I need to share my story to empower others to chase after their dreams.”

Fields credits most of his success to two parents ahead of their time. His mother was a sales engineer, and his late father was a finance manager for a Fortune 50 technology company. He says both instilled in him a passion, appreciation, and love for business and technology.
“At various phases of life, we have the opportunity to learn from everyone around us and the experiences that shape us,” Fields said. “As people come and go from life, we can reflect on those stories we have gathered from them and the lessons that empower us to be successful. Through this transfer of knowledge, society should hope to find the best version of itself.”

After graduating from Tennessee with a degree in Business Operations Management, Fields quickly ascended the career ladder, garnering respect and recognition from his peers in the technology industry.
Clayton entered the tech industry in 2005, starting with an entry-level sales role at a prominent infrastructure technology company. His innate curiosity for complex technical solutions quickly distinguished him. He swiftly ascended the ranks by consistently exceeding revenue targets and prioritizing customer success, earning recognition as a top performer by 2007.
“In the ever-changing landscape of technology, I recognized the importance of staying ahead,” Fields said. “In 2010, my leadership journey propelled my sales expertise and enabled me to mentor junior sales professionals. Emphasizing collaboration, continuous learning, and a steadfast customer commitment became the cornerstones of my leadership philosophy.”

“Professionally, I have helped bring modern solutions to complex problems, such as the first intrusion prevention system for domain networks with Active Directory,” said Fields, a proud father and community leader who volunteers with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity. “Success is defined as making the world a better place and helping the people around me achieve their goals and objectives while making time for my kids and their future.”
While Fields continues to evolve in his career, he knows that the most transformative period of his life took place after the passing of his father at a young age. Clayton’s father’s death changed everything in his life and ultimately shaped the man he is today.
He had to grow up well before his time. However, the loss taught him to live with empathy and compassion towards people, especially those battling extraordinary circumstances.
“We grew up on a small budget, often with hand-me-downs and second-hand items,” Fields shared while reflecting on his life and career. As the oldest of three, I carried the load of a younger brother 10 years behind who needed diaper changes and a younger sister who both needed babysitting and care. Friday and Saturday nights were often spent taking care of them alone.”
Once he got older, Fields could contribute financially to the household, but he said going off to college was a difficult decision.
“I often regretted not being around enough as I pursued education to further my own life ahead,” Fields shared. “Today, they have grown up to be amazing adults and care for everyone around them. I’m fortunate to have such great siblings.”

Today, life is much different for his family and getting his degree was a pivotal shift for Fields. In 2015, he ventured into entrepreneurship, co-founding a technology consulting firm dedicated to optimizing sales processes. His venture gained traction, and he expanded into global markets two years later, leading the company to Europe and Asia. He picked up industry awards and recognition, solidifying himself as a top sales performer. Now, he’s on a mission to give back to others similarly.
“Good leadership is found in letting others succeed and grow while ensuring no one falls through the cracks,” Fields explained. “The carrot is always better than the stick. People want to find their reward and be rewarded for good efforts. Punishment doesn’t drive good behavior but makes people fearful. Creating carrots and pots of gold at the end of the rainbow is a great visualization to keep a team moving forward.”

Moving into the future, Fields is excited about a few trends, especially those within the security market vertical within the technology business. He said when he spoke about ransomware a decade ago, clients thought he was crazy. Now, the news is on the front page of every primary media source. He’s also staying ahead of the game in other vital areas.
Fields says the rise of ransomware attacks presents a widespread and expensive menace to businesses and individuals. As cybercriminals advance in sophistication, it is crucial to establish resilient strategies to thwart such malicious intrusions. Ransomware operates as malicious software designed to encrypt files or entire systems, effectively locking them until a ransom is remitted.
These attacks frequently result in data compromise, financial losses, and disruptions to operations. Consequently, prioritizing prevention measures is paramount to curtailing the adverse effects of such incidents.
“Modern solutions are reducing the cost significantly to solve complex problems in the security market vertical,” he said. “In 5 to 10 years, we should have played leap frog with many threats currently faced because more use cases will be cured and more risk mitigated.”
Clayton Fields Says His Kids Are His Greatest Achievement
Beyond his professional career, Clayton Fields is a proud father who says his children have blossomed into outstanding leaders. He advocates for inclusivity in the tech industry, actively participates in mentorship programs, and speaks at industry conferences and events in hopes of equipping and training the next generation of technical sales professionals.
Fields enjoys remodeling condos and homes and building new homes in his spare time.
He loves calling Georgia home because “it’s a fantastic place, filled with a melting pot of society.” The technology executive has lived in Buckhead, Roswell, Alpharetta, and Woodstock within the state.
Clayton Fields lives by a single verse, illustrated in the Beatles’ song “Revolution.” The song addresses the countercultural movements of the 1960s and encourages listeners to think for themselves. The lyrics include one famous line that resonates deeply in his life, “You say you want a revolution; well, you know, we all want to change the world.”
