Pupils from Repton School, a renowned, independent boarding school in Derbyshire, have taken part in a six-day music trip to Rome. The talented pupils performed at two iconic locations: St Peter’s Basilica and The Basilica of St Paul’s Outside the Walls.
The group of 45 pupils also explored Rome’s historical sites, including the Sistine Chapel and the amphitheatre at Ostia Antica. Repton’s Director of Music, Oliver Walker, described the tour as “wonderful” and expressed his thanks to all involved.
These are some of the highlights from the March 2023 Repton chapel choir tour.
Performing In Iconic Locations
Repton pupils sang for Mass in St Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls.
Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, St Peter’s Basilica is a world-famous church located in The Vatican. As one of the largest churches in the world, it is a renowned example of Renaissance architecture.
The Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls is one of Rome’s four major papal basilicas, with a rich history dating back to the 4th century.
Walker described the basilicas as “breathtaking” and said that the chance to perform in both was a “privileged opportunity.” Meanwhile, Christian Almada, Director of Music at The Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls, described Repton’s choir as “amazing.”
The choir ended the tour with a residence at All Saints’ Anglican Church. Pupils described their delight at being able to sing in such spectacular surroundings, describing the experience as “unforgettable.”
